Biology Practice Questions with Answers

Check cell transport and simple inheritance before moving to a longer practice session.

Try 3 biology questions
  1. Which organelle is the main site of aerobic respiration in a typical eukaryotic cell?

    A. Ribosome · B. Mitochondrion · C. Nucleus · D. Golgi apparatus

Answer: B. Mitochondria carry out key stages of aerobic respiration, producing much of the cell’s ATP. Ribosomes make proteins.

  2. A plant cell is placed in a dilute solution with a higher water potential than its contents. What is the net movement of water?

    A. Into the cell · B. Out of the cell · C. No movement · D. Only through the cell wall, never the membrane

Answer: A. Water moves into the cell by osmosis across its selectively permeable membrane. The rigid cell wall helps prevent the cell from bursting as it becomes turgid.

  3. In a simple dominant–recessive model, two heterozygous parents (Aa × Aa) have offspring. What is the probability of the recessive phenotype?

    A. 0% · B. 25% · C. 50% · D. 75%

Answer: B. The possible allele combinations are AA, Aa, Aa and aa. One of four combinations is aa, so the probability is 1/4, or 25%.

After checking: write one sentence explaining each mistake, then review the corresponding biology lesson.

Mathematics Revision with Worked Answers

Practise algebra, probability and differentiation. Show the steps before checking the answer.

Work through 3 maths examples
  1. Solve x² − 5x + 6 = 0.

    Find two numbers whose product is 6 and sum is −5: −2 and −3. Factor to get (x − 2)(x − 3) = 0. Therefore x = 2 or x = 3. Substitute either value into the original equation to check.

  2. A fair six-sided die is rolled once. What is the probability of a multiple of 3?

The favourable outcomes are 3 and 6: two outcomes out of six equally likely outcomes. Probability = 2/6 = 1/3. Count outcomes before simplifying the fraction.

  3. If f(x) = 3x² − 4x + 1, find f′(2).

    Differentiate each term: f′(x) = 6x − 4. Then substitute x = 2: 6(2) − 4 = 8. This is the gradient of the curve at x = 2.

After checking: classify each error as a concept, calculation or reading mistake. Redo the question without looking at the solution.

Study Skills · Weekly Plan

Build a Weekly Entrance Exam Study Plan

Use a small, repeatable routine that combines learning, recall and correcting mistakes.

Build your 7-day revision routine
  1. Day 1: Attempt a short set of questions. List three topics that need work.
  2. Days 2–4: Focus on one of those topics each day. Review a lesson, close your notes, explain the idea in your own words, then practise questions.
  3. Day 5: Mix questions from all three topics. Check whether you can choose the right method without a topic label.
  4. Day 6: Try a timed practice set. Review the questions you missed or guessed.
  5. Day 7: Reattempt mistakes, plan the next week, and allow time for rest.

Example 60-minute session: 15 minutes reviewing one concept, 25 minutes answering questions, 15 minutes correcting them, and 5 minutes choosing the next topic. Adjust the time to your schoolwork and available energy.

Keep an error log with the question, what went wrong, the correct method, and a date to try it again.
